Situated on the waterfront in the southern most area of Wales the city of Swansea has grown dramatically over the years. Historically the city is known to have had Viking connections, and today it spreads down into the Marina and Maritime quarter and has been regenerated into a lively cultural centre.
It has been awarded the 'the best beach in Britain' title and has miles of unspoilt beaches and dramatic coastline stretching far beyond the seaside town of Mumbles and along the Gower Peninsula. The beaches host a variety of activities including surfing, wakeboarding, kiteboarding and speedboat tours of the area.
Come and see for yourself the areas of outstanding natural beauty that must have inspired many of the renowned poet, Dylan Thomas' early works. Swansea was his home for the first 20 years of his life and he made frequent visits to the area for the rest of his life. There is a permanent exhibition dedicated to the author at the Dylan Thomas Centre which also presents other art events throughout the year.
The many museums and cultural centres offer a taste of the history of the city including the National Waterfront Museum, The South Wales Miners Museum and 1940's Swansea Bay where you can experience life in the city as it would have been during World War ll.
Swansea has much to offer the tourist with shopping, bars, restaurants, arts events and galleries. With miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, ancient castles and country parks this really is an area worthy of exploration.
