Come to Leeds, situated in the north of England on the edge of The Pennines. A city overflowing with all things historical and cultural. It is home to many museums, galleries, and visitor centres all documenting the rich history of the area from Medieval times right through to it's more industrial recent past. Visit The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds City Museum or the Leeds Art Gallery. Or check out the eclecticprogramme of cutting edge festivals, dance, music or theatre on offer throughout the year. With examples of stunning architecture such as the Town Hall, Kirkstall Abbey, various churches and the fabulous Victorian Quarter there is much to see and absorb as you explore the City.
The famous Leeds to Liverpool canal, over 100 miles long, has tow path walks along different stages of the canal all of varying lengths suitable for those of you who prefer a gentle stroll to hardened professional ramblers. The canal took 46 years to build and was first used to transport woolen goods, coal and limestone. Thwaites Mills Watermill Museum has one of the only surviving working water mills left in Yorkshire. See exhibits dating from the 18th Century cataloging the history of Leeds's industrail heritage. Explore the area outside the city which has many parks, country houses and gardens open to the public. Or travel a little further on into the Pennines, officially a mountain range filled with public footpaths from which to explore this area of outstanding natural beauty.
